Outreach Concerts are presented to
provide the opportunity for more citizens of Seoul to enjoy classical
music.
A wide variety of performances led by Music Director Myung-Whun Chung are held as well as smaller chamber music concerts featuring the string, woodwind, brass and percussion sections of the Seoul Philharmonic. These concerts are held in various districts throughout Seoul in many venues including schools, libraries, hospitals, and even prisons. By bringing the gift of music to the community the Seoul Philharmonic seeks to build new audiences and give back to the community
Every August 14th there is a popular televised outdoor concert to celebrate Independence Day in front of City Hall. There are also outdoor concerts held in historic palaces in a tradition that dates back to the 1950s. Recently, a new outdoor stage was built in the Neung-Dong Children's Grand Park with 8,000 seats with an inaugural concert given by the Seoul Philharmonic. In 2009 over sixty Outreach Concerts will be held free of charge through the generous sponsorship of Woori Bank.
